I’ve been away in mid Wales, visiting and learning about a Forest Church in that area. See more about it in this link:
It was an interesting weekend, one of the series of ReSource weekends that offer hands on tasting of mission in different contexts. This one included a long walk, an urban landscape reading exercise, a 4am dawn chorus trip, various mindfulness exercises outdoors, bread cooking round a camp fire and some foraging activities. The surroundings were breathtakingly beautiful and the food fantastic.
There are other Forest churches around and they are not a homogenous model at all – each have their own emphases that relate to their particular context. This contains news of the Oxford Forest church http://www.oxford.anglican.org/forest-church/
What joins all of them is a deep care for the earth and how we can improve our actions to protect the planet. This seems like an idea whose time has come.
