Prayers: 12th Dec 2014 Advent

In all the dark places in the world Lord, we pray your light would shine,
on all who are fleeing persecution, war or famine;
For refugees and asylum seekers, for women, men and children trafficked into slavery.
Empower and strengthen the agencies who work to assist and rescue them.
Set these captives free Lord.

The light has shone in the darkness
And the darkness has not overcome it

This Christmas Lord, as we remember your birth in a stable
we pray for all who are poorly housed or homeless,
for families in refuges or hostels, and all who feel unsafe
due to domestic violence or abuse;
Bind up the brokenhearted Lord.

The light has shone in the darkness
And the darkness has not overcome it

We pray for all who are sick, with AIDS, Ebola and other diseases
Comfort and heal them Lord,
and bless all working to develop vaccines and treatment.
We pray your protection on aid workers and those who stay as your witnesses
Keep them safe in dangerous circumstances Lord.

The light has shone in the darkness
And the darkness has not overcome it

We pray for your Church;
Help us to truly be your people,
Showing your love and keeping the flame of hope alive.
Help us to be faithful and live out our faith.
Sustain us Lord, as we journey together

The light has shone in the darkness
And the darkness has not overcome it

We lift to you all who need our prayers
Thinking of …
And all who we name in our hearts silently now…
Bless them with your healing, comfort and presence Lord.

The light has shone in the darkness
And the darkness has not overcome it
Amen
